WHY ROYAL OAK?

Royal Oak has made a name for itself as one of the best areas for millennials and gen-z alike, thanks to its robust bar and restaurant scene, lively entertainment venues and beautiful outdoor spaces. The city is the perfect blend of home-y and lively, making it a great destination for Baker College’s newest campus. In a city like this, there’s never a shortage of things to do. Here are some of our favorite happenings in this suburb of Detroit:

See the city from the seat of a MoGo bike

MoGo bikes are the perfect way to experience all that Royal Oak has to offer. With docking stations located throughout the city, you can pick up a bike at one end of town and return it at another.

Shop the freshest produce selections at the Farmers Market

The Royal Oak Farmers Market operates every weekend with flowers, plants and fresh vegetables offered on Fridays, a full-farm market available on Saturdays and an antique market on Sundays. With more than 50 vendors weekly, there is something for everyone.

Experience a trifecta of fun at Arts, Beats & Eats

The Annual Arts Beats & Eats in Downtown Royal Oak features local artists, food vendors, concerts and more across the festival’s four-day run. More than 50 restaurants and food vendors are available, as well as a new concert lineup each night. Admission costs vary by time and day, with proceeds benefitting the festival as well as 14 nonprofit partners. The festival usually takes place during Labor Day weekend.

Shop secondhand

Vintage shopping has become one of the trendiest hobbies, and for a good reason. Finding unique, previously-owned items is an adventure – and buying used items in place of new ones is super sustainable. Show the earth (and local Royal Oak merchants) some love by shopping at secondhand stores like Lost and Found Vintage and Papertrail Books.

Watch the Woodward Dream Cruise

The Woodward Dream Cruise is a spectacular event that happens every summer. It has earned a reputation as the world’s biggest cruise, attracting more than 15 million people and 40,000 classic cars yearly. The cruise takes place along Woodward Avenue on the third Saturday of August.

With tons to do in Royal Oak, you’ll never be bored. This city is the perfect place to work, play and live, thanks to endless social offerings and opportunities. Come and see why we chose Royal Oak to be the home of our newest Baker campus!
