FIVE WAYS TO ENJOY ROYAL OAK IN THE WINTER

No matter what time of year, there is always something to do in Royal Oak. When you’re not on Baker’s newest campus, here are five ways to enjoy the city during wintertime:

Downtown Royal Oak

Downtown Royal Oak is only a five-minute drive from Baker’s Royal Oak campus. Full of vintage boutiques, art galleries and record shops, it’s the perfect place for holiday shopping or retail therapy. Whether you buy a special antique for your mother, a classic rock record for your brother or a stylish winter jacket for walking around campus, downtown has something for everyone.

Farmers’ Market

Farmers’ markets are usually only open during the summer and fall, but Royal Oak’s Farmers Market is year-round. Less than a mile from our campus, you can shop a wide variety of meats, cheese, dairy, vegan and gluten free baked goods every Saturday of the year, no matter what season it is. A trip to this premium market will complete your weekly shopping and provide you with all the protein and fuel you need to study for an exam or complete a group project.

Coffee Cafés

Downtown Royal Oak offers more than shopping – It also has numerous places to grab a cup of joe. Some favorites include the Office Coffee Shop, Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters and Atomic Coffee. These offer perfect environments to meet up with friends or gather with your colleagues for a study session. Read more about these coffee cafés here

Delicious Eats

We all need a break from class and the homework that comes with it, and the best way to spend those breaks is indulging in your carb cravings. Royal Oak is home to some of the most delicious and great-serviced restaurants in the metro-Detroit area. Whether you’re in the mood for New York-Style street food, Mexican or seafood, Royal Oak can satisfy any craving you have. Here are some of our favorites: Detroit Eatery, Iron Horse, Lily’s Seafood Grill & Brewery.

Go For a Hike

At some point you may experience stress from your caseload of school, work and everyday life. One of the best ways to relieve any feelings of stress is through exercise, and within the Royal Oak community, there are 50 scenic parks ready for you to explore. Put your boots on, grab your coat and head to one of the many trails for a winter-esque hike. You’ll come back to your desk feeling refreshed and ready to take on that assignment.

From shopping to pleasing your taste buds to being one with nature, Royal Oak really has it all and that is why we chose this city to be the home of our newest Baker campus.
